HIn different reviews it says that Taylor Swift wrote the songs in the middle of the night to express her thoughts of the devastating fall of romance and the dual of “good girl” and “bad girl”. In one of the album’s songs she sings, “I’m damned if I do give a damn what people think”. She also declares that life “is emotionally abusive”. The artist reveals such opinions throughout the track list.
After the 13 songs were dropped at midnight, just a few hours later she dropped seven bonus tracks. In the instagram post she stated to her fans that she had been “loving the feeling of sharing more of our creative processes with you…”. Swift goes on to say that all of these songs were products of late-night inspiration. The seven bonus tracks were co-written and produced by Aaron Dessner. The rest of the album was co-produced by Jack Antonoff. “Midnights” is Swift’s 10th studio album, however it’s the first of her albums to both begin and end with uncompromising love songs.
“Midnights” debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, maintaining its position for over two weeks. Swift took over the top 10 spots of the Billboard top 100. The top 10 spots included; “Anti-Hero”, “Lavender Haze”, “Maroon”, “Snow on the beach”, “Midnight Rain”, “Bejeweled”, “Question…?”, “You’re on Your Own, Kid”, “Karma”, and “Vigilant Shit”. Swift broke her own record of 78.7 million streams with “Midnights” reaching 185 million streams on its release day.
“Swifties” were electric when the album dropped, sacrificing sleep just to listen. Various social media platforms were flooded with opinions like, “there are no skips in this album”. Fans say that “ Anti-Hero” is an intense song that dives into Swift’s insecurities and her figure the public expects her to live. They also say that “Anti-Hero” is one of those powerful songs that is worth screaming in the shower. “Swifties” also reviewed the song “Bejeweled”. Fans say that “Bejeweled” is an emotional song about being underappreciated by your partner, and knowing your self worth. They say it’s one of those songs to dance to in your room at midnight. Fellow celebrities like Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, expressed their support. When asked about “Midinights”, Reynolds said that their family had a dance party when the album dropped. Overall her fan base believes that “Midnights” was one of Swift’s best albums.
Whether simply listening for enjoyment, or listening to the stories and experiences unfold through the lyrics, in my opinion, this isn’t an album to be overlooked. The artist continues to showcase her talents, while blocking out criticism and focusing on her passion. From listening in the car to in your room, there is a song for everyone to listen to. Concluding, Taylor Swift’s “Midnights’ can be regarded as exceeding all expectations.
