The time seems to be flying by until the end of 2019. Along with the new year is the arrival of a new decade.

The past ten years have given us many movies that have changed our lives and shaped our childhoods.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was the two-part finale of the Harry Potter series. The first part was released in November of 2010, and the second part followed a few months later in July of 2011. These two films feature Harry and his two friends, Ron and Hermione, on a mission to find and destroy all of Voldemort’s Horcruxes, which are the items where Voldemort’s powers are stored. The three of them work mostly independently to fight against Voldemort and save both the wizarding and regular worlds. The first part brought in a worldwide box-office total of 960 million dollars, and the second part brought in an impressive total of over one billion dollars.

Monsters University was the prequel, released in June of 2013, to the original Monsters Inc. It featured Sullivan and Mike attending Monsters University and joining an underdog fraternity to participate in the Scare Games, and the journey that these two characters experience as they meet other monsters. Although released after Monsters Inc., Monsters University tells the backstory of how Sullivan and Mike met each other and how they learned about scaring. Monsters University received a grand total of a little over 744 million dollars.

Frozen was the first movie of the current two-part Frozen series, released in November of 2013. The movie showed the journey of Anna, who is traveling away from her home kingdom to find her sister, Elsa. She is searching for Elsa in order to break the spell she cast on the kingdom, which left it with a never-ending winter. Along the way, she meets Kristoff, Olaf, and Sven, who go with her on her adventure. Frozen has raised over one billion dollars worldwide.

Jurassic World was a remake of the old Jurassic Park movies, released in June of 2015. The movie features Owen and Claire, workers at a theme park with cloned dinosaurs, and Claire’s two nephews, Gray and Zach, who were visiting the park. These four have to work together to stay alive after one of the dinosaurs escape, which leads to a domino effect of others escaping and attacking visitors. Jurassic World was the highest-grossing film out of the Jurassic Park series, bringing in a total of 1.6 billion dollars.

Finding Dory was released in June of 2016, and it was a follow-up movie of Finding Nemo, released over ten years previously. It was about a fish named Dory, who goes on a journey to find her family after remembering where she could find them. She is followed by two fish, Marlin and his son, Nemo, who embark on the adventure with her to find her parents. Finding Dory raised a worldwide box office total of a little over one billion dollars.

Moana is a story of a girl who longs for adventure against her father’s wishes, and it was released in November of 2016. She is a polynesian villager who sailed across the ocean on her own. Along the way, she meets a man named Maui, who used to be a demi-god, and they fight monsters and work together to save a goddess. This goddess’s name is Te Fiti, and she gives life to the ocean with a magical stone. Moana and Maui return this stone to her, and save the island. Moana brought in 600 million dollars in theaters.

It was a remake film in September of 2017 to the original It movie released in November of 1990. It is based on the novel by Steven King. The movie is about a group of seven kids ,who band together to fight an evil entity that takes the form of a person’s worst fear. The evil takes the form of an evil clown named Pennywise, who lives underneath the town, and these kids have to work together to stay alive and save their town. It made over 700 million dollars from theaters and became one of the highest-grossing horror and R-rated films of all time.

Coco was a film surrounded by Mexican heritage that came out in November of 2017. A little boy named Miguel has a dream of becoming a famous musician, but is held back because of his family’s old ban from music. He finds himself in the Land of the Dead and meets Héctor. This pair go on a journey to find the reasoning behind the ban of music in Miguel’s family. This movie was celebrated as an appreciation of the Mexican holiday, the Day of the Dead. Coco brought in a total of over 807 million dollars worldwide.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was a remake of the original Jumanji movie released in 1995. It came out in December of 2017. Four high school kids discover the old game Jumanji, and they are transported into a jungle. On their adventure, they have to pass dangerous obstacles and missions and discover things within their own lives. If they don’t win the game, they will be stuck inside of it forever. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle made over 960 million dollars in theaters.

Black Panther, released in February of 2018, was the introduction of a new character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. T’Challa becomes the new ruler of his nation, Wakanda, after the death of his father. He is tested by Erik, who also wants to rule over Wakanda. The two battle for the right to reign over the kingdom. Black Panther was celebrated for its appreciation of African American culture and diversity. It made a total of over 1.3 billion dollars worldwide, making it one of the most successful Marvel films.

Avengers: Endgame was one of the most recent Marvel films released this decade. It aired in theaters on April of 2019. It shows Tony Stark, Iron Man, who was lost in outer space. After he was brought back to earth, he joins the other Avengers and they work together to fight Thanos, an evil demigod who was destroying the planet and the universe. Avengers: Endgame became the highest-grossing film of all time after making a total of 2.79 billion dollars worldwide, surpassing Avatar’s past record of 2.78 billion dollars.

Toy Story 4 was released in June of 2019. The toys, who are led by Woody and Buzz Lightyear, embark on an adventure. Along the way, they have an unexpected reunion with Bo Peep, and they discuss their past with each other as toys. Toy Story 4 seems to be the definite ending of the Toy Story franchise, and it shows how the toys have grown from who they used to be versus who they are now. Toy Story 4 made over a billion dollars in the box office, and has become the highest-grossing movie in the entire Toy Story film series.
